Benevolent sexism is the idea that, compared to men, women are more delicate and in need of protection. Benevolent sexism does not entail hostile views towards women. Rather, this form of sexism ascribes "positive" but traditional attributes to women. Benevolent sexism may manifest in unequal actions based on these principles. For example, men paying for women on the first date, holding the door open for women but not men, and carrying heavy things for women but not men.
