When artists die before completing their work, their works are sometimes completed by other artists as canon. For example, Brandon Sanderson completed the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, and George R. R. Martin is expected to die before he finishes the Game of Thrones series. This also occurs in manga, anime, and other serial works.
