“Mandatory arrest" laws refer to a policing regulation where an officer responding to domestic violence calls must make at least 1 arrest if they have probable cause to believe that a domestic assault occurred or a restraining order was violated. Currently, roughly half of US states have mandatory arrest laws in place.
