In China, the Central Committee is a political body where top leaders of the Chinese government make policy decisions and elect other branches of government. The Party’s Organization Department (POD) recruits individuals out of college into entry-level positions that have tracks to eventually become a member of the Central Committee. Every year, the POD interviews a person’s superiors, peers, subordinates and conducts political opinion surveys, promoting the individuals who performed the best. Moving into the Central Committee takes 2-3 decades.
