The Sunshine Policy was the idea that South Korean economics assistance could succeed in persuading North Korea's post-communist reform and opening, which would hopefully promote peace between North Korea and South Korea. The principles of the Sunshine Policy included increased diplomatic engagement and cooperation, and a commitment to not absorbing or bringing down the North Korean regime.
