Background slide

Labor Unions have historically used the withholding of labor as a pressure tactic in support of anti-war movements. This includes workers striking to end the Vietnam war, refusing to handle cargo for fascist Japan in the 1930s and from apartheid South Africa throughout the 20th century, and workers walking out to protest the US war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seven major US labor unions have called on Biden to “immediately halt all military aid to Israel”. The The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) is the primary dockworkers union on the West Coast of the United States, Hawaii, and in British Columbia, Canada (not to be confused with the recently striking International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) on the East Coast). The union has a history of striking for political causes and is currently considering a resolution to refuse to carry military cargo.
