David Lynch was an American filmmaker known for the particular mood and aesthetic found in his films. This aesthetic, often juxtaposing the sinister or surreal with the idyllic or ordinary, has come to be known as the Lynchian. Writer David Foster Wallace defined the Lynchian as "a particular kind of irony where the very macabre and the very mundane combine in such a way as to reveal the former's perpetual containment within the latter.”
