THP children's movies that portray strong female protagonists in relationships to movies that portray strong independent female protagonists.
Historically, female protagonists in children's movies often ended the movie with a romance (eg: Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel). Many of these older movies were considered regressive and as framing women as needing rescuing by a "Prince Charming." Some modern movies responded by displaying female protagonists that end up in relationships but are still strong (eg: Mulan, Rapunzel in Tangled) and some responded by displaying female protagonists that were independent and did not end up in relationships (eg: Merida in Brave, Elsa in Frozen).
