Ethiopia is a federalized and ethnicized country, with 12 partially autonomous regions that roughly encompass the homeland of a different ethnic group or groups. Each of these regions possesses its own special military force. After the end of the Tigray War in 2022, the central government moved to integrate the special military forces of each region into the national army.
