The Kids Online Safety Act is a bipartisan piece of legislation which would establish guidelines to protect minors from harmful material on social media platforms through a duty of care system and requiring covered platforms to disable "addicting" design features to minors. A duty of care system would enforce these guidelines by making platforms legally liable for certain use by minors on thier platform. Platforms would be required to introduce age verification for all users on their platforms to verify that they are over the age of 18. This would require users to submit biometric or legal identification (sometimes both) in order to access internet services.
