In 1947, women's suffrage passed in Argentina, signed into law by President Juan Perón. His wife Eva — the country’s most powerful female political figure — is moving to consolidate female political participation under the Peronist movement. She wants the Asociación Pro-Derechos de la Mujer (the APDM), Argentina's leading independent feminist organization, to fold into a new Peronist women's party (the Partido Peronista Femenino, or PFF) under her direct leadership.
