Huntington's disease (HD) is a rare, inherited genetic disorder causing progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, leading to uncontrollable movements (chorea), cognitive decline, and psychiatric issues. It is caused by a mutation in the HTT gene and can be detected through genetic testing. It has a 50% inheritance risk from an affected parent, and it develops more quickly with each successive generation (avergae age of onset is approx. 35 years). Currently, no cure exists for Huntington's disease.
