On March 31, 2025, the Paris Criminal Court barred Marine Le Pen, a hard right leader from the National Rally (RN), from running for elected office for five years, hence making her ineligible for the presidency in 2027. Le Pen, along with eight other European Parliament members, were found guilty of misusing European Union funds for enriching her party. However, the court found that neither she nor the others convicted used the funds for their personal enrichment.
