THW abolish the NBA draft and replace it with the bid system
In the status quo the NBA holds an annually televised draft welcoming 60 rookies into the league. Teams' order in the draft is picked by lottery, where the team with the lowest seed in the regular season has the highest odds of securing the top pick. While picks are allocated randomly, they are probability-weighted in favor of the teams with the worst records. There is a proposed change — eliminate the draft and replace it with a bid system. In the bid system, the teams with the lowest record get the most points and they can use those points to bid for the upcoming rookies. They will get the rookies they won the auction for and will be returned the points on the auctions they lose
