Diogenes was a renowned cynical philospher in Ancient Greece. He believed that embracing material possession and social convention led to self-enslavement and therefore committed himself to a life of poverty. When Alexander the Great offered to grant any wish he desired, Diogenes -- who was bathing in a barrel at the time -- requested that Alexander step out of his sunlight. Aristotle, on the other hand, was a student of Plato and a prominent member of Ancient Greek society. He is the father of the Aristotelian method, which emphasizes the study of metaphysics and logic, and virtue ethics, a moral system centered on cultivating virtuous habits to achieve human flourishing.
