This house opposes the Iranian judiciary's extension of qisas to the victims of acid attacks
After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, Iran incorporated the Islamic principle of qisas (meaning "an eye for an eye") into its Islamic Penal Code. This principle allows victims of violent crimes to inflict the same crimes on their perpetrators. Beginning in 2014, Iran saw an uptick of acid attacks against women, with assailants throwing acid on women's faces either due to personal feuds or to victims' perceived nonconformity with Islamic values. When sentencing such assailaints, the Iranian judiciary has extended qisas to the victims of acid attacks, giving them the choice of putting acid in the eyes of their attackers in controlled medical settings.
