Shukumar has been married to his spouse, Shoba, for over 20 years. However, Shukumar quickly grew unhappy in the marriage and cheated on Shoba once. A few years ago, Shoba was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Shukumar committed to supporting her throughout it, which has brought them closer together. Recently, Shoba decided to forgo further treatment for her illness, and her doctors expect her to die within the next few months. One night, the two have an emotional heart-to-heart in Shoba's dark hospital room. The two decide to share things about the relationship that they'd never told one another: they each start with small things, such as Shukumar forgetting to tip the waiter on their first date, or Shoba returning a sweater Shukumar had bought her. The conversation slowly escalates into more serious confessions. Shoba admits to having had feelings for someone else during the marriage, although she never acted on them.
