The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) is made up of African-American members of the United States Congress. It was formally founded during the 1960s as a nonpartisan caucus. The caucus's goals now include achieving greater equity for persons of African descent by closing the achievement/opportunity gap in education, increasing the quality of health care, increasing employment and economic security, etc. The CBC also runs a political action committee called the Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBCPAC). Although the caucus's bylaws do not make being Black a prerequisite for membership, the caucus has never accepted a non-Black applicant.
